SILVANO LEVY B.A., M.I.L., Ph.D.
Reader at Keele University England
Silvano Levy has published widely on surrealism, with learned studies on René Magritte,
E.L.T. Mesens and Paul Nougé. His research on the 'Surrealist Group in England' produced the book Conroy Maddox: Surreal Enigmas
in 1995, as well as a film on the artist, while a wider interest in the movement led to the publication of Surrealism: Surrealist Visuality
in 1996. Levy's first major study on Morris, Desmond Morris: 50 Years of Surrealism,
appeared in 1997 and was followed in 1999 by an enlarged re-edition entitled Desmond Morris: Naked Surrealism. Further research on Morris
culminated in 2001 with the publication of Desmond Morris Catalogue Raisonné 1944-2000. Levy then produced a monograph on Conroy Maddox,
The Scandalous Eye, published by Liverpool University Press in 2003. He has curated national touring exhibitions of the work of Maddox and
Morris. Dr Levy is a Reader at Keele University, England.
